Berlin, August 10th, 2026 (The Berlin Spectator) – Berlin recorded another gun attack on Sunday morning, the second in less than 48 hours. Shortly before 6 a.m., unknown assailants opened fire on a hair salon on Stendaler Strasse in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district, a police spokeslady stated according to German-language media. Officers also found at least one bullet hole at a neighboring nightclub, and it remained unclear which of the two locations was the intended target. No one was hurt in the attack, and police are now investigating the background.
The incident follows a shooting on Friday evening in Kreuzberg’s Graefekiez neighborhood, where several shots were fired at a 22-year-old man. He was taken to a hospital with injuries and underwent emergency surgery, though his life was not in danger. The attacker fled the scene undetected in both cases, and a manhunt is ongoing.
Investigators are examining whether the Kreuzberg shooting may be connected to earlier incidents in the same neighborhood. A homicide unit has taken over the case and is coordinating with the special task force Ferrum, which the State Criminal Police Office set up last autumn after a sharp rise in gun crime across the capital.
Hundreds of Investigations
That rise has been substantial. According to a “Tagesspiegel” tally of shooting incidents since Ferrum’s launch in October 2025, the numbers have climbed steadily without let-up: six cases in October, 15 in November, five in December, six in January, ten in February, ten in March, eight in April, 13 in May, eight in June and nine in July, with Sunday’s Marzahn-Hellersdorf case coming on the heels of Friday’s Kreuzberg shooting in August.
Over that period, the task force has opened several hundred investigations, secured dozens of arrest warrants and confiscated numerous firearms and other dangerous items, yet the frequency of shootings in public spaces has not eased. If anything, May saw a renewed spike.
So far, Berlin police have not commented on whether Sunday’s attack is linked to the broader pattern documented in the task force’s investigations
