Berlin, October 17th, 2026 (The Berlin Spectator) – For the first time in its history, the Berliner Bäder-Betriebe (BBB), which operates the city’s public swimming pools, is inviting everyone to a Long Night of Swimming. On Friday, October 30th, 16 swimming facilities will stay open until midnight, and a few of them even longer. The sauna areas will also extend their hours late into the night.
Among the participants are the swimming and diving hall at the Europasportpark (SSE), the city baths in Charlottenburg, Neukölln, Tiergarten, Lankwitz and Schöneberg, as well as the swimming halls at Sewanstrasse and Ernst-Thälmann-Park. The outdoor pool Sommerbad Kreuzberg takes part too, on its last day of the season. Under floodlights, guests can sweat in the two barrel saunas or swim in the unheated terrace pool until 10 p.m..
The special venue of the evening will be the air-supported hall at the Seestrasse combined pool. A light installation is meant to create an especially atmospheric setting there.
Another Event
Visitors pay only the regular admission price. At Sommerbad Kreuzberg, guests get a 20 percent discount on that day, which also applies to the sauna.
Early next year, another crowd-pleasing event is on the schedule. On January 23rd and 24th, 2027, the competition hall at the SSE will again host the big indoor dragon boat festival. Two teams at a time race against each other in paddle boats that are 12.5 meters long. Winners will be crowned among amateurs as well as among the top athletes.
The open Fun Cup starts on Saturday, January 23rd, and the club athletes follow a day later. As in previous years, the boats are provided. Registration for both competitions is open now. The fee is 70 Euro per boat, which carries a drummer and ten paddlers, at least three of whom must be women. Teams can sign up through the Drachenboot-Indoor-Cup page.
Spectators can cheer on the teams from the grandstand of the competition hall, and admission is free. It is the fifth edition of the event.
