Berlin, November 3rd, 2026 (The Berlin Spectator) – The Berlin Security Conference will be taking place today, and it needs its own security.

Many Berliners will notice something is going on due to traffic restrictions that will affect them and because of a strong police presence in the city. High-ranking officials are supposed to take part in the conference, including European politicians, military officers and members of security organizations.

According to the Berlin Police Department, several streets will be blocked all day long. This applies to the area around a hotel in Berlin’s Lichtenberg borough, near the S-Bahn train station Landsberger Allee, where the conference takes place, parts of the western city center as well as the government quarter around the Chancellery, the Reichstag building and some ministries.

Partner Country Lithuania

Berlin’s public transport is affected too. The Ringbahn train, which does not work too well on many normal days either, will be interrupted at some stations. Also, the U5 (U-Bahn, subway, tube, underground, metro) does not stop at Bundestag station.

Because of the conference, Berlin’s police will have help from other federal states. As many as 3,400 police officers will be dealing with security for the conference, twice as many as there were for the Halloween protests on Saturday. The water police is part of the endeavor too. They will be blocking the waterways in the government quarter. Obviously, this will affect boat tours for tourists too.

At the Berlin Security Conference, Lithuania is this year’s partner country. President Gitanas Nausėda is going to open the event at 9:00 a.m.. A bit later, a special guest whose name was not announced is supposed to speak in front of the participants. It could be Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but this is only a guess.

Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine is one of the main subjects of the conference, along with the danger posed to Europe by President Vladimir Putin’s regime. Lithuania’s upcoming EU Council Presidency is on the agenda too.
