Berlin, August 21st, 2026 (The Berlin Spectator) – Two budget carriers are growing their presence at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) in Schönefeld even as Ryanair scales back its operations there.

Hungarian low-cost airline WizzAir announced a new direct connection from Berlin to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, starting December 3rd, 2026. The route will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, with fares starting at 19.99 Euro.

Olivia Harangozo, the airline’s Corporate Communications Manager, said the new connection would strengthen ties between Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina while giving customers an affordable and convenient travel option. We couldn’t have worded this sentence better. The airline said the move responds to demand for a direct link between the two cities.

Wizz Air already serves several destinations from BER, with a particular focus on Southeast and Eastern Europe. Existing routes include Bratislava, Skopje, Bucharest, Budapest, Belgrade, Sofia and Kutaisi in Georgia.

Eurowings Adds New Cities

Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings is also expanding its winter schedule from BER. Daily flights to Dubai will resume on November 1st. The route had been suspended after the joint US and Israeli strikes on terror sponsor Iran in late February of 2026.

From December 1st, new Premium Business seating will be available on all Dubai flights, featuring four individual seats per row instead of the previous configuration on short and medium-haul aircraft. Eurowings plans to roll out this seating across all eight of its Airbus A320neo jets, meaning the new seats will also appear on select routes to London, Mallorca and Malaga.

Starting November 12th, Eurowings will fly twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. New winter city destinations include Rome, Bologna and Kuusamo in Finland. The airline will also continue its summer routes to Porto and Bilbao twice weekly through the winter, with Lisbon and Sarajevo joining the schedule in December.

Jerez de la Frontera to Be Added

Jerez de la Frontera in Spain joins the network as a new destination in late October. Que bien. Muchas gracias.

Separately, Eurowings intends to connect Cologne/Bonn (CGN) to Tbilisi, Georgia, in December and January. Have a good flight, everyone. But don’t touch your seatbelt until the captain has switched of the seat belt sign.
