Naples, October 8th, 2026 (The Berlin Spectator) – In Berlin, around 1,700 people commemorated the victims of the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7th, 2023, on Wednesday. “Every single antisemitic attack is an additional mandate to keep taking a strong, proactive stand for Jews in Germany and for the State of Israel”, Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated in front of the participants of the main commemoration event at Bebelplatz square.
According to local, German-language media, Dobrindt called the spreading antisemitism a “hideous poison” that was about to contaminate parts of society. This development needed to be fought persistently every day. The Minister mentioned the burning of books that the Nazis organized at Bebelplatz in 1933. This was a reminder of the brutish and murderous nature of antisemitism, he said.
According to the “Tagesspiegel” daily, Dobrindt warned of radicals on both the right and left: “We must be alarmed when right-wing extremists in Saxony-Anhalt lead a German state parliament. We must be alarmed when, in Berlin, a party that openly tolerates antisemites in its ranks talks about possibly joining the government.” The Interior Minister was apparently referring to the AfD, which recently won the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, and the election win of the party “Die Linke” in the city state of Berlin.
“Firewall Against Jew Hatred”
Israel’s Ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, was part of the commemoration event for the victims of the terror attack on October 7th as well. He said giving speeches about dead Jews was not enough. “What is needed is an offensive for living Jews.” Prosor stated: “Antisemites must never again enter parliament, whether on the left or the right!” The diplomat called for a firewall against Jew hatred.
Noga Friedmann, the widow of the IDF soldier Ido Rosenthal, who fell fighting Palestinian terrorists three years ago, spoke in front of the 1,700 participants too. The police secured the commemoration against hundreds of antisemites who took to the streets of Berlin on Wednesday. They abused the third anniversary of the Hamas massacres, rapes, abductions and missile attacks by calling for even more Palestinian terror against the only Jewish state.
In the evening, Brandenburg Gate was lit in the colors of the Israeli flag. That way, the city showed solidarity.
At Oranienplatz square in Kreuzberg, protesters accused Israel of genocide in Gaza. In reality, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) prevented a genocide by fighting Hamas. While it was doing so, Israel made sure civilians in the Gaza strip were fed by providing more than two million tons of aid for them during the war, according to COGAT, the authority in charge. At the same time, Hamas starved, tortured and murdered hostages it took in Israel on October 7th. Also, the IDF warned inhabitants of Gaza ahead of attacks against terrorists and gave them the opportunity to flee on escape routes, in order to minimize casualties among them. Hamas, on the other hand, abused its own people as human shields.
Public Order
In Kreuzberg, the Berlin police stopped the pro-terror protest at Kottbusser Tor on Wednesday night because participants attacked police officers. Several individuals were arrested. Shortly before 9 p.m., the police officially ended the antisemitic rally due to “offenses that threatened public order”. The participants reacted by shouting “Glory to the resistance!”. This is what they called Hamas’ genocidal terror yet again.
A few years before October 7th, just ahead of the Coronavirus pandemic, organizations hostile to Israel started organizing more and more protests in Neukölln and Kreuzberg, including the group “Palestine Speaks” and Samidoun, a pro-terror organization disguised as an NGO that was banned in Germany a few years ago, also because of its ties to the Palestinian terror organization PFLP. Since October 7th, the number of pro-terror rallies and antisemitic attacks has risen sharply again.
