Germany: Intense Heatwave to Hit this Weekend, with Temperatures of up to 37 Degrees Centigrade
A heatwave that hit southwestern Europe days ago is now expected to affect Germany as well. Its peak will be reached on Sunday, when temperatures are supposed to reach 37 degrees Centigrade (99 degrees Fahrenheit) in some cities, including Berlin.
Berlin, June 17th, 2022 (The Berlin Spectator) — If you want your popsicle to melt before you lick it once, come to Germany. If you like sweating like a horse the moment you come out of the shower, come to Germany. If you feel like frying eggs on the hood of your rental car, come to Germany. A heatwave is coming in as we speak. Until Sunday, the temperatures are supposed to rise substantially.

Body Heat
Earlier this week, weather forecasters had predicted a short heatwave. They thought it was going to end on Sunday, at least in the northern half of Germany. This kind of forecast still applies to the northwestern corner of the Federal Republic, but the rest of the country will fry all weekend long. According to the latest forecasts, Hamburg is in for a nice and sunny Saturday at 25 degrees Centigrade (77 degrees Fahrenheit). On Sunday, clouds will bring in rain and slightly lower temperatures.
Things are very different in Berlin. On Saturday, there will hardly be any clouds in the sky while excessive heat is supposed to build up. In the German capital, forecasters are expecting 32 degrees C (90 degrees F). Will the city be able to relax the next day? You wish. On Sunday, there won’t be any difference between people’s body temperature and the outside heat. In both cases, 37 degrees C (99 degrees F) is the forecast. Damn. On Monday, things will cool down with rain and 19 degrees C (66 degrees F).
More Moderate
Munich can expect a nice weekend with slightly more moderate temperatures. We are looking at 29 degrees C (84 degrees F) on Saturday and 32 degrees C (90 degrees F) on Sunday. Another difference is that all the sunshine and the heat will last until Tuesday. Congrats. Things will be similar in and around Cologne, except residents and tourists there can expect sunny and dry weather all next week as well.
Frankfurt am Main is supposed to heat up at least as much as Berlin. Are you ready for 36 degrees C (97 degrees Fahrenheit)? Go there on Saturday. Or how about 37 degrees C (99 degrees F)? If this is what you want, visit Frankfurt on Sunday. Yes, that is how bad it will be.
Quattro Formaggi
Friday was already a rather hot day in Berlin. As usual, many bus and tram drivers in the city of cities refrained from turning on the A/C. Thanks to them, traveling on public transport felt like sitting in a microwave, next to a pizza quattro formaggi. What all of this means is that the summer is commencing a few days ahead of time.
